Marrakech (also known as Marrakesh) is probably the best known city in Morocco, although it is not the largest. It captured my imagination when I was very young and I was thrilled to finally visit it. These photos are all from the medina, the old city. Outside its walls there's a sprawling, modern metropolis.
Fes el Bali is the largest of two medinas in the city of Fes. It's a world heritage site. Due to the very narrow streets it is a pedestrian-only zone, perhaps the largest in the world with 10,000 narrow winding streets. Although motorbikes are a primary mode of transportation throughout most of Morocco you will not find them here. Instead mules are used to haul goods in and around the medina.
I lived in Oregon for many years. Trips to the coast were interwoven into daily life; really just an extension of wherever I was living at the time. I never tire of its timeless beauty, quirky character, and the range of its seasons.
The Palouse is a magical place. In the spring, the undulating hills, electric green of young wheat and lentils, contrasted with brown and gold, plowed and fallow fields create a patchwork of amazing beauty. In the autumn the colors shift to the earth tones of the harvest season. Small towns, although few and far between, dot the countryside.
